Critical Thinking Skills Analysis of Class XII Participants of SMAN 1 V Koto Kampung Dalam on Cell Division Material

21st century skills are very important for students to have in facing the challenges of the modern world, one of which is critical thinking skills. Critical thinking skills are the ability to analyze, evaluate, and interpret information logically and systematically so that they are able to draw valid conclusions. These skills play a huge role in helping learners develop new ideas, formulate and solve problems, and make informed decisions in a variety of situations. This study aims to determine the level of critical thinking skills of students on cell division material at SMAN 1 V Koto Kampung Dalam. This study uses a quantitative descriptive approach with the population of all students of class XII MIPA in the 2021/2022 school year. The research sample amounted to 30 students from three classes who were randomly taken through simple random sampling techniques. The research instrument is in the form of a description (essay) question that has been validated by material experts and instruments. The data analysis technique was carried out in a quantitative descriptive manner with the help of Microsoft Excel. The results of the study showed that students' critical thinking skills based on eight indicators measured were in the medium, low, and very low categories. The average overall level of critical thinking skills of students is at 33.85%, which is included in the very low category. These findings show that students' critical thinking skills still need to be improved through more effective and contextual learning strategies.
